My Sugar Is Raw on Tour: Casina Montana - Salento

This year we spent the long-awaited summer holidays in Salento. In choosing the ideal accommodation we came across the B&B Casina Montana in Corigliano d'Otranto. The positive reviews and the strategic location, a thirty-minute drive from both coasts and from the main cities such as Lecce, Gallipoli and Otranto, prompted us to make it our base for the holidays. When arrived, we were greeted by the owners, Lina and Leo, and we found ourselves in a completely renovated traditional farmhouse nestled in a beautiful and paceful countryside. The rooms overlook a beautiful garden, very well maintened. Our room was impeccable and overlooked a very pleasant cool and shaded pergola under which we happened very often to have our dinner.

Before booking we contacted the owners indicating the presence of a vegan and a vegetarian. We were told that there was no problem and that they will do anything possible to accomodate our needs. And so it was: the breakfasts were all, from first to last day, just wonderful. Every morning we found waiting for us on the table fresh and dried figs, homemade jams, homemade bread, fresh fruit, cereals, soy milk and soy yogurt: the perfect ingredients for a rich and healthy vegan breakfast. Add to all this all the cakes Leo cooked like the tomato and onion calzone, the focaccia barese or the pie with vegetables, all prepared with flour, oil, water and salt. If you're with some vegetarians and omnivores, no one will be disappointed because every morning Leo also churned pies, donuts, plum cakes and sweets as the pasticciotto, which were really tempting to all guests.

The breakfast quickly became a must and we soon set aside our first idea of skipping it every so often to get to the sea in the early hours of the morning. Lina and Leo were really special hosts, always ready to suggest the most interesting events and the best beaches, attentive to detail and willing to meet every request. We felt as family from the very first day, and at the time of departure it was a little like saying farewell to friends. For our next summer in Salento we'll surely come back here.
